My name is Rod, and I’ve been through some tough losses in my life. I’ve also overcome a lot of other adversity. I get how important it is to have someone in your corner when you’re grieving. I’ve lost both of my parents, I’ve witnessed the death of beloved pets, I’ve had to mourn jobs & dream careers, I’ve come to terms with health issues & diagnoses, and I’ve dealt with the end of friendships & romantic partners. I also believe that travel can work wonders, especially when you’re hurting. It’s no replacement for support groups, therapy, etc., but I believe in conjunction with those it can work wonders. It feels like taking steps forward while carrying a piece of your heart with you. And getting out of your everyday life allows you distance from memories, no need for daily responsibilities, surrounding yourself with people who don’t know what you’ve gone through (unless you want to share it). It also allows me to think clearly and process my emotions in the environment I find to be most healing.
Grieving is a wild roller coaster, and the whiplash can be severe. There’s no rulebook, no 5 stages of grief, no timeline — there’s only a lot of ups and downs. At The Wanderlust Curators, we get that. We know that traveling through grief isn’t about escaping pain; it’s about finding little moments of healing in new places. Our mission? To be your safe space, your travel buddy, as you navigate this bumpy road.
When it comes to the types of grieving trips you should consider, there’s no shortage to fit what you need most right now. Whether you’re craving some zen vibes on a tranquil beach, spiritual awakening at religious sites, or you want to revisit old memories. If you picture yourself on a soul-searching pilgrimage, let’s look at European churches or Southeast Asian meditation retreats. If you need to treat yourself to a spa retreat, let’s look at some Caribbean all-inclusive resorts or cruises. But if it’s checking off that bucket list with a daring adventure, let’s get planning! It’s all about what speaks to you.
Traveling through grief isn’t about ditching your pain at the departure gate; it’s about finding glimmers of peace and joy amid the chaos. Studies actually back this up – travel can be a real game-changer for healing. Stepping into new experiences, breathing in different air, it all adds up to fresh perspectives, a little solace in nature, and finding your inner strength to keep going.
